Hello artists,

I thought I should introduce myself. I don't think I know any of you...

I'm Zaza, a.k.a. szaza or Samantha— but not Sam! I'll be your friendly neighbourhood Exchange Moderator. What does this mean? From time to time I will be performing a pulse check to see how your progress is going. Do you need some encouragement? Do hoarders need hounding? I will also pull the plug if you feel your exchange needs to go gently into that good night.

I have read your posts and comments, and it seems that a number of you are feeling frustrated and or guilty about the way this exchange is moving. I also noticed some you are parents now— congratulations! Now, obviously life and new babies takes precedence over exchanges, but let's come to an agreement on the life of this exchange. Are we planning on continuing? There is no shame in wanting or needing to bow out! If you can't continue, that's ok— just let everyone know so we can figure out the next steps.

So what say you, 45? Is it over, or still a go?

What should we do?

I feel like I've totally dropped the ball on this project. :( There's probably a few artists out there feeling the same...too many projects on the go,new babies, job changes, commissions, deadlines, too many life circumstances taking up free time (free time? what is that elusive beast again? I haven't seen him in a while) etc.

There's also that weird feeling I never thought I'd experience, but I stall and stall and stall when thinking about drawing something in someone else's moly. I know it's supposed to be fun and spontaneous and sketchy, but still I hesitate.

My own sketchbooks are full of scratches and doodles and spirals and mishmashes of colour and ideas. These little black books aren't the Sistine Chapel, but when it comes to someone else's moly, it certainly feels like it...doesn't it?

Shall we call it a day on this project? If we have a moly that is not our own should we mail it back to the original owner and call it a day? Should we continue the project? What do you think we should do?

Where am I?

Fripperee asks in her Moly: where are you now? This is my answer - waiting anxiously for 2008 to be OVER. For me this has been a crazy year - both good and bad. Now we're down to the final stretch - with luck the contractions won't be too bad and 2009 will pop out quickly.

The scan does not show the colours to well. I tried to keep this expressive. Since this is not my own sketchbook I feel like I must do a perfect drawing with no mistakes. So I tried to keep the stress off and just play with my pens. I usually buy cheap knock-off Moleskine sketchbooks that absorb the pens differently. It was fun to draw on this paper since it is smoother than my usual stuff.

To introduce myself. I live in Montreal, but I was born and grew up in Alberta. I just started a new job as a Print Producer at an advertising company. I like to draw and cook (and eat) and drink coffee. I guess you'll learn more about me as I add more drawings.

So, Mia, are you ready for me to send you the next Moly?

Hi All!
I thought I'd share with you all the Sign in page and the Theme page for my Moly.

It's a pretty broad theme so i look forward to seeing what you all come up with.

My Moly winged it's way over to Jen A. this morning, the post man said 10-14 days but i have known these things to be faster so fingers crossed.

I think it would be great to have a little knowledge of the people who's books you are decorating so how about we all post some kind of introduction?

My name is Janice, I live in Melbourne Australia, melbourne is down the bottom of Australia so it's not really 'outback' but I grew up in the outback so I can talks about Kangaroos and koalas enough to impress the tourists.

By day I work as a production manager making toys and charity promotions, it's a semi creative job, so it keeps me interested and I work with great people so it's fun!

I'm an obsessive crafter, I bind books, sew, cook, embroider, dabble as a printmaker and paint and draw of course.

Illustrators I admire are people like tim biskup, portrait artists like jean pedersen and journallers like Roz stendahl.

I hope to develop a series of work and dabble in artbook creation in the near future.

Looking forward to seeing everyones work in the near future.

Somnia a Deo missa

I finally received my lovely little moleskine and created a sketch entitled, "Somnia a Deo missa" which translates into English from Latin as, "Dreams sent by God". My dreams often shape the artwork I do; I feel compelled to draw and paint them to try to make sense of the symbolism that fills my sleeping hours.
I'm thrilled my sketchbook will be making its way to Belgium today. I was also so happy to receive Jen's moly from her on Monday! (quick postal service! I hope mine travels as quickly)

Moly_x_45, founded by Jen Appel (Canada), is an extension of the Moleskine Exchange. This blog will follow the adventure of a group of artists around the world, in a Japanese fold Moleskine sketchbook exchange. Our current group includes the artists listed to the right, including contributors in the US, Germany and Belgium.

Each artist will set off with a small Japanese (accordian) folded Moleskine. Creating a drawing, collage, or painting, then send on to the next artist. Each artist will draw on a couple of spreads (3-4 pages) then send it on to the next artist. When the artists book is filled, it will be returned to the owner with images created by artist around the world. Each artist has a month (give or take) to make an entry. The outcome will be a pleasant and surprising adventure, as artists are encouraged to interact and merge their art with others.

The concept:

1. The artists start with the Japanese fold Moleskine - Name, address, email address written in book.

2. Each artist gets 1 month (give or take) to make a sketchbook entry, and mail it to the next person. The order is listed to the right -- for participants in this exchange, look at the list of names under MAILING ORDER. If you ever need to update addresses, please feel free to contact your partners directly! An important part of this project is to discuss and exchange information and ideas.

3. Each artist will do 3-4 pages each round.

4. Artists are encouraged to interact with other images in the book. Please be respectful, but also don't hesitate to meld your art with earlier entries.

5. When the book is full, when one side of the unfolded book is filled, the book will be sent back to its original owner. That artist may continue by buying a new book and sending it to the next person.

6. If a person decides not to continue, she will simply keep her book when it comes back to her. She should email all of the participants to say she is not going to continue. We will decide, then, if we want to find a new person.

7. Please communicate regularly via email. Let each person know that you have received/sent the book. The goal is to have a dialogue. Any comments and questions are welcome.
